If you look to the right of this page you'll see a CDBaby logo with a black CD cover with the word "Underground" on it. We're on that CD - Underground 2 - a collection of Hong Kong's 11 best bands (well, according to the Underground). Anyway, we recorded two tracks for the CD - "Taxi to Wanchai" and "Bullet Proof Black Sedan" and they turned out pretty well. You can purchase a copy of the CD at any Underground show, but if you're not in Hong Kong (or you can't make it to an Underground show) then you can always get a copy of the CD from CDBaby, or you can download the songs from iTunes:

And so comes the moment that we hoped wouldn't happen for a while. As mentioned previously Robert is leaving Hong Kong, and so tomorrow is his last gig with Bone Table. Robert started the band with James a couple of years ago, and after jamming a while they decided they needed a bass player. The rest is Bone Table history - 25 original songs, countless gigs, 2 compilation album appearances, many fine rehearsal moments, and basically a lot of fun. There may be more to come - who knows what the future holds? Anyway, it's certainly been an honor and a privilege to play with Robert and we're really looking forward to tomorrow night's show at the Wanch. And so should you - we'll be joined by our friends El Destroyo and it's basically going to be a shindig.

Tonight we're playing the Listen Up! show at the Fringe Club, organised by Koya. The show starts at 10.30pm, $100 entry (includes 1 drink), and this is (probably) the second-last gig with Robert Prevendar. So come on down to the Fringe and have some fun with us.

Last ever Bone Table gig at Fresco

Robert Prevendar - co-founder of Bone Table and all-round good guy (and Scientist) is unfortunately leaving Hong Kong to take up a job in the USA. And when Rob goes, so too will a lot of the material, which means we'll find it hard to do three action-packed sets at Fresco once a month.

So this Friday night will be our last ever gig at Fresco. We started out across the street at Joyce Is Not Here in October 2006. That night we tried to play quietly (Rob even played an acoustic) but we still ended up rocking out. Rob kept on breaking strings until he ran out of strings to break and it was a generally crazy affair. We then took up a monthly residency at Joyce's and when they opened the Peel Fresco Music Lounge across the street we packed up our stuff and moved across the street as well.

We've had some fantastic gigs at both Joyce's and Fresco - a particular highlight was doing the Typhoon show last year (not many people but those who were there had a very good time) and we met a lot of people and made some good friends.

So come on down to Fresco this Friday night - show starts 9.30pm (ish) and we'll take it from there. Should be quite a party.

Rob and James will be playing an acoustic set - check them out on February 19th at The Wanch – the show starts at 9:30pm and everybody gets in free. This is part of the regular BC Magazine "Raw and Unplugged" event (scroll down to read some thoughts from Rob and see some photos of James and Rob).

Note - as well drums James is going to play the banjo!

Surf 'n' Turf

A new year - and we have our first show for 2009. We'll be playing at The Wanch on Saturday 17th of January. We're playing with the Curs - a fun country band from Lamma Island, and El Destroyo. We're not really the Turf, and we're not really the Surf either. I think we're the "On the rocks" part of the show. As in:

WAITER: And are you ready to order?
DUDE: OK, Yep, I'll have the Surf and Turf.
WAITER: And to drink?
DUDE: Gimme a beer and a whiskey ON THE ROCKS.

Ghosts, Bones & Monsters

This Saturday, November 15th, we are playing a show at the Fringe Club. By a happy coincidence, all three bands playing the show have names that fit well together:
Hungry Ghosts
Bone Table
Sea Monsters
And so we have the "Ghosts, Bones & Monsters" show.

The Sea Monsters are a great band run by Koya Hisakazu - they play some pretty wild drum and bass-propelled music. Koya breaks about 20 guitar picks every show! And also playing are the Hungry Ghosts who were first runners up in the Hong Kong heats of the World Battle of the Bands. They play some very good indie music, so with all three bands it should be a great night.

Show starts at 10.30pm, entry fee is $100 (includes one drink). The Fringe club is located at 2 Lower Albert Road, Central.

Bone Table @ The Underground

Next Friday, November 7th we'll be playing at Underground 70 - Hong Kong's best independent music showcase. Chris B has been organising this night for a couple of years now (70 shows!!!) and it keeps on getting better and better, with new venues, new types of shows, and of course lots of new bands. This is the thrid time we're playing the Underground and we're very excited about the show. We always have a good time, so come on down and check us out and the other bands as well!

Anniversary Show

Well, we didn't know it's an Anniversary Show, but our gig at Peel Fresco Music Cafe this Friday night is the bar's first year anniversary. As owner Rob Baker pointed out, it's kind of fitting that the band that played the first ever gig at Joyce Is Not Here is playing the anniversary show at the new venue (Peel Fresco and JINH are owned and operated by the same people). So anyway, come on down on Friday night - all drinks are 20% off to help everyone celebrate. After we finish playing our sets some of the other musos who also play there are going to jam it out 'til the small hours. Who knows - maybe the cops will turn up too...

Play That Shit for Charity

OK, so our next gig will be a charity show on October 18th. We're very excited about this show as we'll be playing with a bunch of bands we've never performed with before. And the show is in a gnarly factory building in Kwun Tong (which is on the Kowloon-side).

Suddenly we are busy

After our gig on Friday night the evidence is in - we are rocking hard despite two months of inactivity. And the gigs keep coming. This Sunday August 17th we're playing at the Silvermine Bay Music Festival on Lantau. The Festival starts at 3pm and ends at 10pm, although there is a risk the police will spoil the fun. So get down there early and catch the music. Not sure what time we're on, but there'll be an update as soon as we know.

The other Bone Table news is that this weekend we're going into a recording studio to try and get some of our songs down on tape. Hopefully it will go well and we'll be able to share the songs with everyone. Anyway, stay tuned!

Saturday, May 10th - Bone Table returns to The Wanch for an evening of our signature Fuzz Rock and Murder Ballads. This time we'll share the evening with special guests, The Green Mist. Famous for their brooding yet ethereal compositions, The Green Mist are a perfect fit for the evening.

Hailing from Tasmania, The Green Mist's latest album "Next Stop Antarctica" features some of Australia's finest musical renegades, including Spencer P Jones (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, cowpunk legends The Johnnys, and the ferocious Beasts of Bourbon), Charlie Owen (Beasts of Bourbon), Julien Poulsen (Moler, Jen Cloher & the Endless Sea), and Brian Ritchie (from the wildly popular American band The Violent Femmes).

Their set in Hong Kong will be a stripped down version of the band, featuring Julien Poulsen (vocals, guitar), Paul Mileham (lapsteel), and Stu Robertson on drums. The Green Mist are on their way to Europe for a tour, so we are very lucky indeed to have them stop over in Hong Kong.

This will be a special night of music in Hong Kong indeed, and if you have any interest in independent music at all, then you should be at this gig. Best of all - it's free!

Hey, we're playing tonight at the Wanch. It was arranged last night when we were all standing around outside the Wanch after an El Destroyo gig. John (the Wanch's band booker) realised we were all in the same place and pointed out that we could have played as well. And then El Destroyo were asked if they could play again tonight. And we though "Hmm, maybe we could play too..." And so tonight we will be playing a 45 minute set. Get there at 10pm to catch the show. The Wanch is on Jaffe Road in Wanchai! See you there.

Underground Aftermath

Last night we played for the Underground show at the Cavern in Hong Kong.

It was a great show - we all felt really happy with how we played, and thanks to everyone who came along. Hopefully we'll be doing another Underground show in a few months. We will of course be appearing at the Peel Fresco Music Bar on March 15th, and the Listen Up! show at the Fringe on March 21st. So stay tuned for more info on those shows.
