Suddenly we are busy

After our gig on Friday night the evidence is in - we are rocking hard despite two months of inactivity. And the gigs keep coming. This Sunday August 17th we're playing at the Silvermine Bay Music Festival on Lantau. The Festival starts at 3pm and ends at 10pm, although there is a risk the police will spoil the fun. So get down there early and catch the music. Not sure what time we're on, but there'll be an update as soon as we know.

Fresco Show

This Friday we're playing at the Peel Fresco Music Cafe in SoHo. Show starts at 9.30pm and goes until late. Free entry of course so stop by for a drink or two.

The other Bone Table news is that this weekend we're going into a recording studio to try and get some of our songs down on tape. Hopefully it will go well and we'll be able to share the songs with everyone. Anyway, stay tuned!

Bone Table & The Green Mist

Saturday, May 10th - Bone Table returns to The Wanch for an evening of our signature Fuzz Rock and Murder Ballads. This time we'll share the evening with special guests, The Green Mist. Famous for their brooding yet ethereal compositions, The Green Mist are a perfect fit for the evening.

Hailing from Tasmania, The Green Mist's latest album "Next Stop Antarctica" features some of Australia's finest musical renegades, including Spencer P Jones (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, cowpunk legends The Johnnys, and the ferocious Beasts of Bourbon), Charlie Owen (Beasts of Bourbon), Julien Poulsen (Moler, Jen Cloher & the Endless Sea), and Brian Ritchie (from the wildly popular American band The Violent Femmes).

Their set in Hong Kong will be a stripped down version of the band, featuring Julien Poulsen (vocals, guitar), Paul Mileham (lapsteel), and Stu Robertson on drums. The Green Mist are on their way to Europe for a tour, so we are very lucky indeed to have them stop over in Hong Kong.

This will be a special night of music in Hong Kong indeed, and if you have any interest in independent music at all, then you should be at this gig. Best of all - it's free!

Last minute gig!

Hey, we're playing tonight at the Wanch. It was arranged last night when we were all standing around outside the Wanch after an El Destroyo gig. John (the Wanch's band booker) realised we were all in the same place and pointed out that we could have played as well. And then El Destroyo were asked if they could play again tonight. And we though "Hmm, maybe we could play too..." And so tonight we will be playing a 45 minute set. Get there at 10pm to catch the show. The Wanch is on Jaffe Road in Wanchai! See you there.

Listen Up! @ The Fringe with Bone Table

This Friday night (March 21st) we're playing the Listen Up! show at the Fringe Club. There are three bands playing - Born to Hula, Bone Table and Very Ape. We're on second. Show starts at 10.30pm, $90 entry (includes one drink). The Fringe is located at 2 Lower Albert Road, Central, Hong Kong.

Underground Aftermath

Last night we played for the Underground show at the Cavern in Hong Kong.

It was a great show - we all felt really happy with how we played, and thanks to everyone who came along. Hopefully we'll be doing another Underground show in a few months. We will of course be appearing at the Peel Fresco Music Bar on March 15th, and the Listen Up! show at the Fringe on March 21st. So stay tuned for more info on those shows.

Bone Table Plays In The Underground 53

Last Friday night we played at the Wanch, along with El Destroyo. It was a great gig - we played pretty well and we enjoyed ourselves immensely. There was a good crowd there and it was nice to see some familiar faces from our other gigs. Thanks very much to everyone who came!

This Friday night (November 23rd) we're playing again at Joyce's new bar - "Fresco" - which is on Peel Street. In fact it's right across the road from Joyce Is Not Here. So come on down to Fresco and catch the show for a while. We'll start playing around 9.30p m.

Yumla

Tuesday, July 3rd , Bone Table will play at Yumla.

A new location for us. Mr. Dan F is a long time supporter of music of all kinds, he is nice enough to have invited us to play at his little club. If you haven't been to this bar, you really should go check it out. "The chillest bar in Hong Kong", suggested by some pretty "chill" cats. The funky bar scene in Star Wars comes to mind when you enter. Located in the rather strangely surreal Lok Hing Lane Park, Yumla sits surrounded by trees, greenery, granite terraces and 30 story tower blocks. Smack bang in the middle of HK's nightlife district; between Lan Kwai Fong and Soho. You'll find this basement bar by its regularly-changing graffiti front, painted by local artists. Free admission. We'll be there from 10pm till close.

They've got a song called Taxi to Wan Chai and another called The Punks in Yau Ma Tei, so will Bone Table be working their way through all of Hong Kong's districts?

'We're doing everything, yes,' deadpans Adrian Furby, a guitarist and vocalist in the four-piece. 'Pokfulam's coming up soon.' First, though, they'll make a stop in SoHo, where they'll play their surf-rock, country and blues at artsy bar Joyce Is Not Here for a three-hour set on Saturday.

Furby is joking, but the band's music does have a distinctly local flavour - even though it's a decidedly international group. James Wolfe, Bone Table's drummer and founder, is English; Furby is Australian; Robert Prevendar, also on guitar and vocals, comes from the US; and Maggie Chang, on bass, flies the flag for Hong Kong - but she has only recently returned from a long detour to the US and Canada.

However, the songs are all Hong Kong. The band members have poured their experiences in the city into their music. 'The band has helped us make sense of our experience here,' says Wolfe.

He started Bone Table by approaching Prevendar at an Elvis convention in Hong Kong two years ago. 'He asked if I played bass,' says Prevendar.

'Sadly, I didn't, but I told him I played guitar.' That was good enough for Wolfe.

Furby joined the band six months later, when he responded to an ad posted by Wolfe and Prevendar.

The band's formation might have been ad hoc, but their sound is tight. Rob Baker, owner of Joyce Is Not Here, says they sound good in the intimate venue. 'They can hear each other playing and have a good time.'

Good Fun At The Me... We... Night

We had a good time at the Me... We... Night at The Fringe over the weekend. Even though we ended up not getting a proper sound check, and had some difficulties in hearing each other, we banged it out and had ourselves some good times. We always look a bit angry in the beginning, but after a couple of songs, we sort of relaxed into it and started connecting with each other.

That's right - we're playing again soon. This April 27th at the Fringe Club in fact. We'll be appearing as one of the bands in the "Me?...We! Movement" line-up (NB - this page is currently advertising their upcoming show on March 30th). Not sure what time it all starts yet, but we'll put an update here as soon as we know.

Ol' Canton Opry - March 10th at The Fringe Club

We'll be playing with the Shotgun She-ras at The Fringe Club on Saturday, March 10th. Bone Table will kick off the show around 10:30pm, then the She-ras will hit the stage around midnight. We'll be joining each other for a song or two during the night, so make sure you don't miss this show! Ticket price is free for Fringe members, and $90 for non-members, but that includes a standard drink.

We have given the event the name Ol' Canton Opry, after the famous and long running show Grand Ole Opry. Ol’ Canton Opry showcases original music with blues/rock and roots country sounding bands in Hong Kong. This show promises to be a crazy good time, a rip-roaring ‘ho-down, featuring two of Hong Kong’s up and coming bands. Who knows, if this show is successful, we could even do other shows under that name with other bands! The future of live music in Hong Kong lies in your hands! So show up and be counted!

Not two, just one gig afterall

Okay, so we lied. Our engagement at The Wanch on February 8th had to be canceled due to some work related conflict Robert has. Yeah, we're not real rock starz yet, most of us still have full time jobs when we don't play the role of a rock star.

BUT, we are still playing at Joyce Is Not Here on Friday, February 9th. So come on out. Joyce's is a cozy little place but always offers a good time, especially when we play there! If you missed it last time, we'll be playing some of our new songs. So join us!

Two gigs in one week!

That's right - we'll be playing twice in one week.

The first gig will be on Thursday 8th of February, at the Wanch in Wanchai. This is a great chance to hear us in full rock-out mode, and we'll be playing for an hour so we'll get to play all of our original material. Yay!

The address of the Wanch is 54 Jaffe Road, Wanchai. Ph: 2861 1621. Not sure what time we're on yet but I'm sure if you get there around 9pm you'll be there in plenty of time to catch the show. Entry is free.
