Ipoh
So we just went back to Australia for a short trip - it was all a bit of a rush and we only get to see people for an hour or so at a time. Definitely a very unsatisfying way to see friends and family.
On the way back we stopped off in Malaysia to attend my friend Pak's wedding. It was held in
Ipoh, which is a smallish town about 2 hours north of Kuala Lumpur.
What a place! It's fantastic. The best thing about Ipoh (besides the food and people) is the architecture. Somehow people in Ipoh haven't yet succumbed to the idea that everything old needs to pulled down (a lesson sadly lost on Hong Kong). The buildings are a wonderful mix of old British colonial buildings - old wooden houses with slats in the sides to let in the breeze, and Chinese row houses that feature a shop on the bottom floor and one or two apartments above. I didn't really get a good photo of the old British buildings but I did get a couple of the Chinese row houses.

It's a great experience just wandering around the town, and then when you get a bit tired, you simply find the nearest restaurant or coffee shop and eat something incredibly tasty.

One good day in Ipoh would be good - two good days would be better. Go Ipoh!
