  Crocodile!
I had no idea how far away Cape Tribulation is. It's right up the top end of Queensland. I had vague ideas that I could take photos with my phone and email them to Flickr so they'd show up here while I was away. But 15 minutes north of Cairns there was no mobile coverage at all. No wonder Queenslanders are always freaking out about Telstra.

Daintree
The Daintree Rainforest is incredible. Everywhere you look plants of all sizes are scrambling over each other to get some sunlight.

The photo above shows where the rainforest meets the intertidal zone - at that point the tide was in, and small fish were swimming around the trees, including a lot of Archer Fish.

The Cape
The Cape is a beautiful place - a nice curved beach, the headland, mangroves, and massive fig trees. I don't think Captain Cook would have named it Cape Tribulation if he could have seen the actual beach.

Crocodiles
Estuarine crocodiles were nearly hunted to extinction in the 1970's, but are coming back with a vengeance. In the 26km Thornton Creek estuary there is thought to be 1 croc per kilometre, so 26 crocs. Here's one of 'em:

The more I found out about crocs the more they scared the crap out of me.

"To Hell With Poverty" - Gang of Four
Possibly the best bit of punk/funk ever recorded and I snagged a 7" of it on the weekend:

The good news is that the Gang of Four are releasing a new album. The bad news is it will be mostly remixes of old songs. Still, they're playing live again and maybe one day they'll get down to Australia. If you want to listen to the single, you can download it (legally) from Andy Gill's website.

  Ableton
Ableton is a very interesting digital audio mixing tool. The interface has always reminded me of Excel with sound, which doesn't sound very inspiring I know. However, as interesting a tool as it is, I can't justify spending a few hundred dollars on it. Fortunately, Ableton are giving people the chance to try the beta Ableton Live 5.0. What's the catch? Well, it's beta software, so there will be annoying bugs.

  Cape Tribulation
This weekend we're going up to Queensland to Cape Tribulation. I've never been to Queensland before so I'm looking forward to snorkelling on the reef. Should be awesome. We'll be staying at Coconut Beach, and Milly will be staying at the Lara Cattery.

  Handmade FX
I think these might be the prettiest FX pedals I've ever seen...

They sound pretty wild too...
