China Update #2
No nukes, just flowers. In an effort to show that money must not be spent on frivolous displays of power (so as to save money for the 2008 Olympics) this year there was only a flower display in Tiananmen Square.
We went down to the square at about 8.30am and stood around for three hours with about 200,000 other people, waiting for something to happen. And then all of a sudden the fences were removed and everybody wandered north up the square, to find a few flower beds and a depiction of the rocket that launched the first Chinese astronaut earlier this year.
Where's the nukes? Not even a couple of planes? Oh well...
